Brandon Robert Athey

Executive Director

There was a time when I lived in darkness. Once lost in a relentless cycle of blackouts, arrests, fights, and the chaos of military deployments, I lived as though I had nothing to lose. Atheism and ignorance fueled my out-of-control existence. I was blind to the destruction I was inflicting on myself and those around me, trapped in the grip of alcohol—a substance that took everything and gave nothing in return.

But when I hit rock bottom, something extraordinary happened. I encountered God. Not in a quiet, subtle way, but in a spiritual awakening so profound it shattered the illusions I had built my life on. It was as if a light pierced through the darkness, revealing the truth: I was not created to be a slave to this poison. I was created for more—for freedom, for purpose, for impact.

As a United States Marine Corps veteran, I knew how to fight, but this was a different kind of battle. It wasn’t fought with weapons or fists; it was fought with surrender—surrender to God, to truth, and to the possibility of a new life. Breaking free from alcohol wasn’t just a personal victory; it was the breaking of generational chains that had held my family in bondage for years.

That victory transformed me. My mind, once clouded, became sharp and clear. My heart, once hardened, softened with compassion and purpose. My actions, once reckless, became intentional and aligned with a greater mission. I discovered that true strength isn’t found in resisting weakness but in choosing a higher path. And in doing so, I found peace, clarity, and the courage to live with integrity.

This mission isn’t just mine; it’s ours. Alcohol is the leading cause of preventable death worldwide, a silent epidemic that destroys families, fuels violence, and robs people of their potential. I’ve seen the devastation it causes, and I’ve also seen the hope and power of what happens when people choose sobriety. Together, we can rewrite the narrative—not through force, but through inspiration. By making sobriety a cornerstone of pop culture, we can transform cities, reduce crime, heal families, and create a world where people choose life over destruction.

This isn’t about me; it’s about us. It’s about building a movement so powerful that the world has no choice but to take notice. A movement where people like you bring your skills, your passion, and your heart to the fight against the alcohol epidemic. A movement that doesn’t just aim to help individuals but to transform entire communities, one sober step at a time.

If my story resonates with you, it’s because you’re meant to be part of this mission. Together, we can create something extraordinary—a world where sobriety isn’t just an option but a source of strength, freedom, and impact. Let’s fight this battle together. Let’s build something that matters. Let’s change the world.Join me. Be part of the Sober Army. Together, we will end the alcohol epidemic.
